Invasive Plant ID: Herbaceous Plants

  • The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati 2715 Reading Road Cincinnati, OH, 45206 United States (map)

Invasive plants come in all shapes and sizes. While the larger woody plants get a lot of attention, there are plenty of invasive herbaceous plants that are quick to fill in the gaps once the woody plants have been removed.

In this beginner-friendly class, participants will learn to identify the most prevalent invasive herbaceous plants found in Southwest Ohio. We'll learn about why these plants were introduced, what characteristics make them invasive, and which native look-a-likes can be easy to confuse with their invasive counterparts.

This class will include a lecture component and an in-field component. Please come prepared to walk outside.

Please note: This class is NOT focused on removal techniques, but we will share resources that provide removal information with participants.

Instructor: Sam Settlemyre, CGC Community Engagement Coordinator
Cost: $15 / free for active CGC volunteers
