Urban Agriculture Program
Our food system must change. Too many people lack access to nutritious food. Too much of our land and our tax money goes toward growing subsidized monocrops like corn and soybeans. And a small handful of locations carries the burden of producing food for too vast a population.
At the CGC, we believe good food for everyone is possible when people of all ages have the skills, capacity and will to act as food citizens and land stewards. We help people grow and share healthy food for themselves, their families and friends, and the planet! Growing your own food can be an incredibly rewarding experience. But there’s more to it than tossing some seeds in the ground and crossing your fingers. Whether it’s your first year gardening or you’ve been growing for decades, a gardener is always learning. We provide accessible and equitable ecosystem gardening education and resources to help you plant, harvest, cook and preserve your garden’s harvest.

Since 1980, the CGC has been helping residents organize and maintain community gardens that grow healthy produce, provide outdoor activities, foster community and increase food security throughout the Greater Cincinnati region. Whether you’re a participant or a garden leader, we provide resources, training and support to help you plan, establish, grow and manage your community garden project.

We help teachers provide boundless opportunities for children to connect with nature through hands-on learning while fostering a sense of wonder and curiosity. Through garden-based lessons and activities, a monthly newsletter, teacher trainings and more, we empower educators to provide positive, nature-based experiences for their students.

A deep and lifelong love for nature sprouts at home, and we’re here to support parents and caregivers! We currently have two offerings (both free!) to help parents raise kids who are comfortable with nature: our Lil’ Sprouts program and our 52 Weeks in Nature with Kids guide.
