Urban Agriculture Assistant Internship
Position Description: The Civic Garden Center (CGC) Urban Agriculture Assistant internship is an eighteen-week part-time paid position ($15.00/hour). Working alongside the Urban Agriculture Coordinator, this intern will have the opportunity to learn regenerative agriculture methods and techniques and how to apply them in an urban setting. This position will work in several community gardens cofacilitating outdoor gardening classes, performing garden and grounds maintenance, doing seed starting work and assisting in facilitating garden volunteer workdays.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
Assist with implementing and managing regenerative agriculture systems
Provide technical assistance, outreach and education to Urban Agriculture Program participants
Assist the Urban Agriculture Coordinator with creating urban agriculture curriculum for outdoor gardening classes
Assist with growing cool weather and warm weather vegetable crops from seed indoors
Cofacilitate volunteer groups during grounds workdays
Work with media personnel to maintain social media presence
Maintain a safe work environment through the proper care of tools and equipment
Operate motorized equipment (reciprocating saws, tillers, string trimmers etc.) and vehicles (John Deere gator)
Be available to work nights and weekends on a regular basis
Qualifications: Intern must have an interest in and general knowledge of edible plants (or be willing to learn) and a willingness to follow directions. Must have the ability to perform physical labor in an outdoor environment. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be self-motivated and focused. Must be able to arrange own transportation to job site. Employment is contingent upon the successful passage of a background check.
Physical Requirements: Intern must tolerate heat and able to work outside for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and move at least thirty pounds and to bend, stoop, kneel etc.
Work Timeframe: Start date is Tuesday, May 27, 2025 / End date is Saturday, September 27, 2025
