Food Preservation: Canning & Dehydrating Basics

  • The Civic Garden Center of Greater Cincinnati 2715 Reading Road Cincinnati, OH, 45206 United States (map)

This event is sold out. See our calendar for our other current class offerings!

In recent years, there's been an increase in people growing their own food. Canning and dehydrating are preservation methods that allow you to enjoy those seasonal foods all year long!

In this workshop, you'll learn how to can your harvest using the water bath method as well as how to dry herbs naturally or in a dehydrator to create your own seasoning mixes and healthy snacks for you and your family. It's an ideal opportunity for beginners to learn about the techniques and equipment needed for safe home canning and dehydrating. You'll leave with dehydrated snacks and a pint of canned pickles.

Cost: $15 / $10 for active CGC volunteers
Instructor: Kymisha Montgomery is the CGC's Urban Agriculture Coordinator, supporting a network of over 70 community gardens through network development and organization, trainings and technical advice. She got her gardening start in her community garden right here in Cincinnati and has been preserving food for 10 years, including for inclusion in her CSA customers' shares.
