Creating a Backyard Bird Habitat with Native Plants

  • The Civic Garden Center 2715 Reading Road Cincinnati, OH, 45206 United States (map)

In the past 50 years, we've lost almost 30 percent of our breeding bird population. One of the main reasons for this decline is habitat loss. If you'd like to help the birds, why not create a welcoming habitat for them in your own backyard?

The best habitat to create for birds, is one filled with native plants! They provide important cover and nesting sites as well as fruits, seeds and insects that birds depend on for food. Other elements that help create a bird haven include water sources, supplemental bird feeders and landscape accents like paths, artwork and benches that both support the birds and increase the enjoyment and relaxation you experience from connecting with the natural world right outside your door.

In this class, we'll cover the relationship between native plants and birds, which native plants attract which backyard birds, and other additions that make yards more bird friendly. Beginner friendly!
