Visit the Green Learning Station
The Civic Garden Center’s Green Learning Station (GLS) is open to the public as well as for classes and field trips.
What do you want to learn about?
To learn more about green infrastructure and sustainable design, stop by the Green Learning Station during daylight hours for a self-guided tour. Educational signage and QR-code-linked videos explain the strategies we’re using to garden anywhere and everywhere, transform trash into compost, and catch rainwater where it falls.
You can also take one of the tours we offer. Here are a few of the topics you can learn about by visiting the Green Learning Station:
Growing Food in the City: Growing food isn’t just for farmers! At the Civic Garden Center, we grow food in pots, on rooftops and in our own “backyard.” Learn easy strategies for getting started with urban (or suburban) vegetable gardens on this tour that will have you tasting, tromping, and digging in the dirt (and compost).
Managing Rain on your Property: Did you know that 8.5 billion gallons of raw sewage and stormwater flow into our region’s streams each year during rain events? Visit the Green Learning Station to discover ways you can help with this problem by managing stormwater on your property—from rain barrels to pervious pavement and green roofs to rain gardens.
Exploring Solar Panels and Green Energy: The GLS is home to the SonLight Power School. To tour our solar panels and green energy infrastructure, please contact SonLight Power directly.
And more! We offer classes through both the Civic Garden Center and the Green Learning Station. If you’re an educator, find out more about our hands-on STEM field studies for middle and high school students and our Green Girls in STEM career exploration program for young women in high school.
