As the CGC’s Conservation Program Manager, Sam is responsible for overseeing training, education and ongoing conservation projects in line with the CGC’s focus on providing knowledge and resources to remove invasive plants and establish healthy native ecosystems. Sam works to support homeowners as well as volunteers working in public spaces such as parks, schools and community gardens in ongoing conservation efforts.
Sam is passionate about connecting people to their local environment. He believes the best way to learn about the natural world is by getting involved in hands-on projects within your local community. As people get involved, they can become advocates for their local greenspaces. The need for healthy, accessible urban greenspaces is more pressing than ever before. In the face of climate change, healthy plants and trees are a cornerstone of resilient communities. Sam works to improve the ecological health of our greenspaces for the benefit of people and the environment.
Sam started out as a CGC intern before coming on full time in the fall of 2019. As the Community Engagement Coordinator, he got to work with a wide array of volunteers and community members. His passion for urban conservation efforts grew out of his involvement with the amazing community of volunteers who support their local greenspaces. In the fall of 2023, he transitioned to his current role as Conservation Program Manager. Sam continues to be inspired by the people he gets to work with day in and day out on conservation projects throughout the Cincinnati region.
