Rhus typhina ‘Tiger Eyes’
Tiger Eye Staghorn Sumac

  • Tiger Eye is a dwarf cultivar with golden leaves that turn bright orange in fall.

  • Stems and fruits are covered in velvety hairs, making this plant beautiful in winter as well.

  • Grows in full sun to about 6 ft tall and may spread slowly through suckers.

  • Tolerates dry clay soils.

  • Deer resistant.

  • Furry clusters of red berries are as tart and sweet as citrus and can be brewed into tea or ground and used as seasoning. They are high in Vitamin C and easy to preserve through winter.

  • The bark is high in tannin and was traditionally used for leather tanning.
