Rhus typhina ‘Tiger Eyes’
Tiger Eye Staghorn Sumac
Tiger Eye is a dwarf cultivar with golden leaves that turn bright orange in fall.
Stems and fruits are covered in velvety hairs, making this plant beautiful in winter as well.
Grows in full sun to about 6 ft tall and may spread slowly through suckers.
Tolerates dry clay soils.
Deer resistant.
Furry clusters of red berries are as tart and sweet as citrus and can be brewed into tea or ground and used as seasoning. They are high in Vitamin C and easy to preserve through winter.
The bark is high in tannin and was traditionally used for leather tanning.
