Quercus bicolor
Swamp White Oak

  • This large tree grows especially well in wet and swampy sites. It can also tolerate drought and urban conditions, making it a good choice for city landscaping.

  • Oaks are keystone species, and support hundreds of different insects, birds, mammals and even other plants in their community.

  • Although acorn processing is somewhat involved, acorns have been used a food source throughout human history. Swamp White Oak is said to have especially sweet acorns, excellent for baked goods.

  • The bark was also traditionally used for tanning and for yellow dye.
