Prunus angustifolia
Chickasaw Plum

  • A tree-like suckering shrub with fragrant white flowers and red fruit in late summer.

  • Grows best in moist, sunny locations.

  • This plant may be too large for the average urban yard but, given the right conditions, can be an important part of native habitats.

  • Drought tolerant and fire tolerant.

  • Although truly native to the southeast, the Chickasaw Plum was planted across the continent by Native Americans who valued it for its delicious fruit and value to wildlife. Fruit can be eaten fresh or dried.
