Kerria japonica ‘Pleniflora’
Japanese Kerria

  • Native to China and Japan, this slender arching shrub produces yellow flowers in spring.

  • The pleniflora cultivar has double-petal flowers that look like pom poms.

  • It grows upright to about 8 feet tall.

  • Kerria prefers partial shade and moist, rich soil.

  • It can spread through suckers if not pruned back.

  • Drought tolerant and deer resistant.

  • Horticulturist’s Notes: Kerria blooms on old wood, so pruning should be done in the spring, after flowers fade.
