Heliopsis helianthoides
Oxeye Sunflower
Also called false sunflower, this native perennial blooms in mid-summer with a multitude of yellow flowers.
In late summer, its dried seeds are popular food for songbirds.
It’s a bush plant that typically grows about 5 feet tall.
Prefers full sun and well-drained soil.
Drought tolerant.
Horticulturist’s Notes: Oxeye sunflower can be cut back by half in late spring to encourage shorter, stronger stems. It may sometimes need staking if planted in shade or very rich soil.
