The Walnut Woods of Evanston grand opening celebration will recognize the thousands of hours of volunteer work that has transformed this 10-acre site from a neglected greenspace into a fully functioning Cincinnati Park.
Schedule:
9am: Volunteers will plant tree saplings grown by Walnut students, identify existing trees in the site that need to be protected, and help set up the event to follow.
11am: Refreshments will be served. Participants will also have the option to take home a tree if they would like.
12pm: A series of speakers will talk about the history of the project, recognize key individuals and partners, and discuss future plans for the project.
12:30pm: Official ribbon cutting at the trail entrance along with unveiling of the Park signage!
12:30-2pm: Trail tours and self-led exploration, opportunities to meet the partner organizations involved in the project, and an educational talk about the threat posed by invasive plants
