While most of the workdays at Walnut Woods of Evanston have taken place inside of the actual forest, the edge habitat outside of the forest is just as important. This workday, we'll be planting a prairie habitat along the forest edge. Edge habitats receive a lot of sunlight and are susceptible to invasive species pressure. By planting a prairie, we'll be providing a strong buffer for the forest ecosystem while also supporting a myriad of insects and birds.
There are a ton of plants to get into the ground during this workday, and the soil will be tough. Please come prepared by wearing closed toed shoes and long pants. Please also bring a reusable water bottle and gloves if you have them. We will provide extras if needed.
There is free parking along Sulsar Ave. We'll meet by the Walnut Woods of Evanston kiosk and the benches, located at near the trailhead.
