Cypripedium kentuckiense
Lady Slipper Orchid
A rare and treasured spring ephemeral native to Kentucky woodlands, Lady Slipper grows best in part shade and moist, rich soil.
It reaches 2 feet tall and wide and spreads slowly through creeping rhizomes.
Late spring flowers are creamy yellow with burgundy tops and resemble a slipper or pouch.
Horticulturist’s Notes: Lady Slipper Orchids have become incredibly rare in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching. Plants do not transplant well and should never be dug up or disturbed. The location of our specimen is kept secret to protect it, but it may be hiding in plain sight!
