The Joys of Abundance

By Sue Sturgeon, CGC Board President

Have you noticed how abundance pretty much defines so many gardens in our community?

It’s surprising, since so many plants and trees were zapped and presumed dead due to the historic well-below-zero cold snap at Christmas. If you waited a bit, like I did, you’ll now notice a good number of those plants and trees are making a fine comeback. I credit the relatively mild end of winter and long spring with higher-than-normal rainfall (especially for July) for this resurrection. Of course, this also means an abundance of weeding and pruning to be done in this year’s garden. I hope your gardens are also giving you the joys and challenges of abundance!

At the CGC, the grounds have never looked more exuberant, and our new hoop house fits right into that pattern with a virtual carpet of native plants being nurtured for the Fall Native Plant Festival on September 9.

You are coming, aren’t you?  We hope to bring back a bit of the ‘preview party’ vibe with live music, food trucks, beer and quick classes celebrating the native plants, which will be for sale by the CGC and a host of other local native plant growers. It will be a fun day to shop, kibbitz and learn something new along the way.

Hope to see you on September 9 to enjoy a day in the CGC gardens and time with lots of our friends!
